Poor Kat. She's going through a rough time so I wanted to do some art of her character Iris to make her feel better. Unforch for me, I'm still kinda slow and only got this much done tonight in one sitting.

I think I'm finally feeling up to doing art again. Been working on that Rosa pic too, but I need a big burst of creativity to really finish her design. Otherwise she'll just look naked and slutty and that's NOT what the client had in mind.

So today I did pretty fast colors for this pic, only 2 hours in Open Canvas. Jenilee did the lines for this pic "Holla Back" and said I could color it as our first collab. I wanted to do this to thank her for being there, especially when my mom had a concussion and things looked bad. She knows what it's like since she lost her mom and I think talking to her really kept me sane. So thank you J for being a friend :D

Playing around with a new tablet because I HULK SMASHED my old Intuos 2 out of frustration. Wacom Bamboo Fun is prettier, but definitely doesn't feel as sensitive as an Intuos.

Just another preview of progress. Once this pic is done and I finish my last commission of my most recent set, I think I'll offer 10 slots of $50 simple bust commissions. I want to spend more time doing more art instead of a lot of time on a single piece. I want more variety in my gallery.

Finished tonight, but DA is down for maintenance so I can't submit this. Decided to ditch the jacket idea and just kept it clean and simple. Switched the gloves for the wrist band because gloves just aren't really punk are they?

Park for Lynsey

I decided to enter Lynsey's contest to design a character for her story frankie*SNATCH. There were two characters for the contest, a girl named Mai and a dude named Park. I'm assuming Park is Korean since every guy I knew from school named Park was Korean. Well here are his stats:

Name: Park
Gender: Male
Age: 18-20
Ethnicity: Asian
Tips: Park opts for sharp cut outfits and simple, mainly dark colours, occasionally with a punk/visual influence.

So the deadline is pretty much today and all I have is a rough sketch/speedpaint. But she said that the winner will be announced March 5th so I have til then to really get an entry in. Here's my design thus far:

I wanted to go with a clean-cut look for his hair and I'm thinking of decking him out in a bomber jacket with a half done tie. Probably some gloves too. I'm gonna try to stay away from leather since I've been doing too much of that lately.

Just posting a commission in progress shot. I'm finally happy with the face. Everything else should be easy since I don't need to reference the rest, except maybe the girl's face. I think I'm on a leather kick, and after beating Devil May Cry 4, I decided to add more coolness to the leather jacket a la Dante. When I'm done with the basic leather coloring, I can take it into Photoshop and add some grain leather texture to the jacket too. Hopefully my client likes the coloring style so far. I refuse to ease up on the leather details, but in turn it takes me longer to finish a painting. Well, what can you do right?

Commission Sketches

It's been a while since I did much sketching, and I think I'm getting faster/neater at it. I have to really force myself not to sketch too messily because it just takes longer to paint clean details later. Anyway, these sketches are for commissions. The first one gave me some composition trouble since the client requested the poses like this. I'm not too sure what I'll do with the negative space above the girl's head.

The next three are supposed to be Rosa from FF4. I'm going to do her in a theme similar to what I did with the FFX2 girls. I chose succubus as the theme/job for her and I would've added more wings and clothing/costume but I wanted to settle on a pose first. I personally like the third pose for how dynamic it is, but the first sketch is more fleshed out in terms of the succubus idea. I like the idea of a mix of leathery and feathery wings. On a side note, I really need to work on drawing feet.

I've decided that maybe I should do a LOT more speed paintings considering I seem to take far too long to do any art and I seem to be too detail-oriented. Honestly, I should beef up my computer so I could actually use Photoshop and Painter without fear of crashing them. I would love to be able to make much higher-resolution art. I got my copy of Exotique 3 in the mail yesterday and I feel like I want to submit art, except that my work is never large enough D: If I made larger art, I could also make prints of them. Would anyone actually buy my artwork if I had offered prints?

I'm going to start a commission journal pretty soon on DA and start taking more commissions even though I have 3 left to finish. I need to really push myself, but the good part is I actually feel like doing art lately.
